Joosten also recently achieved another personal milestone — becoming one of the few people to survive a second round of lung cancer. DeLorenzo is currently creating a media campaign for Lung Cancer Awareness Month, November 2009, featuring Joosten in a variety of media outlets, including The View, Entertainment Tonight, Leeza Gibbons, Los Angeles Times, New York Post, The Awful Truth on EOnline.com, and People Magazine. In 2006, The New York Times chose DeLorenzo as one of the five Unsung Heroes in the Battle Against HIV/AIDS for his Project benefiting the hospice clients of the San Antonio AIDS Foundation. His profile ran in The New York Times World AIDS Day Section. In 2008, the San Antonio AIDS Foundation named him their Angel of the Year. In 2008, DeLorenzo expanded the project to include Joseph’s House, an AIDS Hospice in Washington, D.C., dedicated to serving homeless individuals with AIDS. Using his PR work as a stepping-stone, DeLorenzo was able to work with the Obama, Clinton, Kerry, and Gore campaigns. In 2000, a personal and professional highlight for DeLorenzo, was attending the Democratic National Convention as a guest of Vice President Gore and his family. As a person living with AIDS himself, DeLorenzo has worked with and continues to work on behalf of a variety of AIDS organizations throughout the country. Included on the list are AIDS Search Alliance, National Association of People with AIDS, Pets Are Wonderful Support/LA, Sacramento AIDS Foundation, Being Alive LA, Joseph’s House, Gay Men’s Health Crisis, Broadway Cares, and, his personal favorite, the San Antonio AIDS Foundation. He has also been a guest columnist for POZ Magazine’s political issue, October 2008. DeLorenzo is also a regular columnist for HuffingtonPost.com, writing about health care from a person with AIDS point of view. DeLorenzo also champions women’s health care issues through work with the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. In March of 2006, DeLorenzo had the honor of lobbying Congress on Planned Parenthood’s behalf, meeting with Senators Clinton, Durbin, Obama, and Lautenberg. He also attended the NOW Annual Conference in Albany, New York. In 2004, DeLorenzo was an honored guest of Planned Parenthood Federation of America at the March on Washington for Women’s’ Health. In 2003, DeLorenzo produced in conjunction with the Daytime for Planned Parenthood Committee, the very successful theatrical event “Daytime for Planned Parenthood” featuring the acting talents of 12 major Daytime television stars in the play TALKING WITH. In 2006, the Committee sponsored a cocktail party at the home of Heather Tom, which DeLorenzo also produced. Nearly 30 Daytime and Primetime celebrities, including Kate Walsh of GREY’S ANATOMY, attended the evening. DeLorenzo produced a third successful Daytime for Planned Parenthood event at Cosmo Lofts Hollywood, in June of 2008. DeLorenzo also furthered his producing career with the project KIDS TALK POLITICS.
